SCILD: Stands for so many things....

SCILD /ʃiːld/ n. (Old English) A piece of defensive armour, or anything that provides protection.

But personally it boldly stands for 'Stop Calling It Learning Difficulties' – because honestly, your brain isn't "difficult," it just learns in its own fantastic way!

About Me

Photo of Christian, the founder of SCILD Neurodiverse Learning Skills

Welcome to SCILD! My name's Christian, and in 1998 I was lucky enough to be told I had ADHD when I was 14. Luckier still was that I found what would now be called a Neurodiverse Learning Skills Tutor before it was a thing. The skills I learned were invaluable and got me through a degree, teacher training and the challenges and hurdles in life generally, all because my potential was seen. I didn't have a disability; I was just travelling the wrong learning path.

I have had a passion since then, both personally, and my career has also been driven by helping other neurodiverse people understand and discover their TRUE potential. I have 15 years' experience as a secondary teacher where I was Neurodiversity Ambassador, as well as several years as a specialist neurodiversity learning skills tutor and mentor for 9-19 year olds before deciding to take the leap and start SCILD.
